People from around the globe come to New Zealand each February to witness and enjoy Waitangi Day. Celebrated annually throughout the country on February 6, Waitangi Day commemorates the signing of the Waitangi Treaty in 1840 and the peaceful coexistence of two very different cultures in this beautiful land.
This short excerpt (of a longer documentary sponsored by JMGlobal Entertainment), features a Waitangi Day ceremony that took place in Okains Bay, on the South Island Aotearoa (New Zealand). Highlighted by the signing of a New Covenant, Okains Bay resident Murray Thacker returned a portion of his family’s ancestral land back to the trust of the Maori people. Striving to create good relations between all, the Maori Headman explains that, as cultured people, the Maori always respect the cultures of other people. They understand that the diversity of this planet is its strength, not its weakness.
